I'm Clearly A Few Days Late On This One...Brewing Beer and Friend Making Monday

So….I originally started this post on Sunday evening, with the intent on posting that night..

…but then  I had technology issues (aka-I suck at this sort of stuff, so I gave up). I figured I would throw together my weekend recap and FMM into one post on Monday afternoon….

…But then I didn't have a chance to figure out the technology crap on Monday (meeting after work, followed by pole dance class, followed by quick shower, followed by food shopping-by the way, food shopping at 8:00 on a Monday night is the greatest thing ever….followed by a boy scout carpool)

I didn't get home until 9:30 and I was wiped. I also didn't get much done on my Tuesday stuff, so I am postponing till next week.

But without further ado, here is the post I had been working on for a few days now:

Sunday Evening:

I recently purchased a keyboard attachment for the iPad and although it makes it significantly easier to type, there are still some computer functions that just aren't as convenient as an actual computer.

But, it does make it more convenient to be able to type/blog while being able to hang out in the living room, as opposed to secluded in the office.

So this post (as long as I am able to continue without any technology issues) is being typed up by the crackling fireplace.

So cozy and warm
Ryan totally surprised me last week by randomly purchasing a desperately needed hearth!

Weekend Recap:

Remember a few weeks ago, we watched our friends' dog, Cole?

Mulder was a very happy puppy when his friend, Cole, came over on Friday afternoon. I was also very happy to hang out his owner, Leah. We spent a few hours catching up, eating Chinese food, and watching our puppies play together.

Saturday, I went to out to brunch with my father and sister, and then I headed back to my parents house to visit with Bauer. My mom called me earlier in the week to let me know that Bauer wasn't doing very well so I really wanted to make sure I got to see him this weekend. (The medication the vet put him on has been helping and he is doing better now....but it's such a sad reminder knowing that he is getting older)
My forever puppy

Later that evening, Ryan and I went to a housewarming party where we had a great time sitting around a fire, playing ping pong, and a bunch of other games throughout the night.

And enjoying some great drinks.

Black o Lantern
Imperial Pumpkin Stout
(I wish I loved it more than I actually did. It was strong (8.5 ABV), and dark, but not as creamy has I had anticipated. I wouldn't choose it again)

Sunday morning, I spent a lot of time with Mulder and gave him a treat courtesy of the free gift bag my father received.

He was VERY patient, but was very ready for me to tear into that package and give him his treat!

Mulder approved

On Sunday, Ryan and I went to one of his friend’s house to watch and learn about the beer brewing process  (one of my 101 in 1001 activities!)

Filtering and measuring the water

Boiling
Adding grains

Stirring and checking the temperature

More stirring, more boiling

We weren't able to stay for the entire process, but it was incredibly informative and now I am even more excited about brewing my own beer.

And now, Monday. I look forward to Friends Making Monday each week, so thank you Kenlie!!

If you've taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!
A New Season
1.  What is your favorite thing about Fall?
Boots, leggings, over sized sweaters. The leaves changing colors. Sitting outside by a fire. Apple cider. THANKSGIVING! Stepping on crunchy leaves and acorns.
(the fact that I can wear pants all the time so I don’t have to shave my legs as regularly!)

2.  It’s not Fall until…
The leaves start changing colors
3.  Apple cider or hot chocolate?  I am a die-hard chocolate girl, but I do love the return of apple cider.
4.  Share a happy Fall memory.
I loooooved going apple picking with Ryan this year
5.  Do you have any hobbies that are seasonally specific? If so, what are they? Snowboarding-but that’s winter specific. In the fall, I tend to start reading more, knitting more, and doing puzzles.
6.  What do you miss most about Summer now that it’s officially over?
The time off. That’s the great part about working in a school system.
And of course, more daylight
7. Do you prefer pumpkin pie or pecan pie?
Eh, neither really do it for me
8.  Do you suffer from allergies?
I always say no, but that’s probably not the case
9.  How do you celebrate Halloween?
It’s always so much fun coming to school that day and seeing the kids dress up. We've typically had fun costume parties to go to each year, but this year, not so much
Past Halloween costumes include
Risky Business, 2010

Peg and Al Bundy, 2011

Scully (X-Files), 2012
The year we got Mulder

10.  What is the biggest change that you expect to experience during this season?
Hmmm…. It’s our first winter in our home so I expect a bunch of house problems dealing with snow, shoveling, losing power.
Ah, the joys of being a home owner!

Ok, so sorry for being a few days late on this.

What are you doing for Halloween this year?
Any memorable costumes??

  1. The year my youngest son was born we all dressed up in Star Wars costumes. His name is Luke...of course. I love Halloween and it's one of the things I adore about Fall. I was wondering where you have been the last couple of days. I've missed your posts.

  2. Welcome to the joys of home ownership! The first thing I did when we bought our house was paint every room. Only the hall bathroom stayed boring old white!

    Love the costumes - funny!

Stopping in from FMM - hi!
